Southeastern Connecticut Filmmakers is a group of filmmakers and artisans that have come together to promote quality filmmaking in Southeastern Connecticut. During the hour founding member and President, Alec Asten, will screen short clips from various SECTFilm productions. Through his 20 years of experience as a local
filmmaker, Asten will highlight what it's been like working with local talent in front and behind the camera and discuss the current state of the indie film movement in Connecticut. Among the various roles SECTFilm plays in the region, the most important is furthering the education of filmmakers though workshops and seminars. One of their most exciting projects is PROJECT 611 which gives 1st time filmmakers, actors, and crew the chance to direct their own scene on a working set. Asten will highlight Project 611 and showcase some of the clips from this endeavor. In January of 2007, Alec founded Firesite Films LLC. He currently has various stories in development whose characters interact with prominent events in history. His goal is to produce quality crafted films that not only entertain family audiences, but inspire them to research historic events.
His love for visual storytelling and educating others has kept him in the local college circuit. in his spare time he teaches various aspects of film production at several colleges including Mitchell College, Connecticut College, Voc-Ed Center, and the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. In March of 2008, Alec also became the Founder and President of SECTFILM, an organization that promotes quality filmmaking in Southeastern Connecticut.
